The IKE that wasn't

While we all know now of the devastation that the hurricane "Ike" caused along the Texas coast, residents of Oakdale (and surrounding communities) should be aware the your Oakdale CERT team was perpared for the worst here at home. Days before Ike even made landfall, Bob Kolesky started contacting members of our CERT people, The Red Cross, and other local facilities in order to prepare for any possible flooding that Oakdale may suffer as the storm headed North.

Actually Bob was ahead of the curve on this one, and even ahead of the local Red Cross. As Ike was making landfall in Texas, and forcasters were predicting a swing toward our area, communication was being organized as we were already getting multiple inches of rain from local weather fronts.

The CERT team held a meeting on Monday Sept. 15 at Lea's home - and prepared to set up a command center up on First Street in case water rose.

Fortunately for all of us, Ike weakened, and then swung north of our area. There was no need to continue with the Command Center setup.
